Andres Carrillo is a former USMC scout sniper that joined the VetIF program in 2025 as a computer science major at UIUC. Since then, he has been working to research the relationships between graph theory minimalism, network topology, and materials topography while serving in the Bogdan and Chen labs. His team’s work points to a 4-fold decrease in the number of network nodes needed to predict a system, leading to up to a 16-fold decrease in the computational power needed to model materials systems. Andres will complete his current degree in May (26) and has been accepted into a highly competitive 1-year accelerated master’s program in Computer Science. This summer, he will work directly with the Bogdan group (USC, Los Angeles) continuing his work before returning to work on his MS this fall. Due to this exceptional work, we have awarded him with a post in our Veterans Assistantship Program while he completes his program in pursuit of a role in the US Space program.
